The Journey

There is so much more to say about our journey so far. We have had a very full year, packed with events, hardships, triumphs, smiles, stresses, and everything that doesn’t neatly fit into a single description. We have been tested together and we have tested each other, sometimes to our mutual delight or annoyance, but never to our disappointment.

The past year with you has taught me what a strong relationship really is. It was something I thought about before we were together, how to tell if I was in a good and solid relationship or not. I used to believe that it mean a lack of arguments or disagreements, a general feeling of working well together, but that was totally wrong. Real strength is the undiminished willingness to support each other, even when we may disagree. It’s the freedom to share with your partner without limit and without fear of retaliation. It’s the comfort that the love you share with them is absolute and unconditional. It’s the feeling of being safe with someone. It’s the moments when you feel at home with them, regardless of where your bed and belongings are. It’s the knowledge that no matter what lies ahead, they are standing there with you every step of the way, and it’s the knowledge that you will never fall while they stand with you. All of these things are part of how I feel for you, why I love you so much, Kelly.

I feel very strongly that we have only just begun together. While the future is unknown to us, I have no doubt that you are who my heart belongs to today, who it belongs to tomorrow, next week, next month, and further forward. I built this site and included these stories to share with you moments of reflection on our beginnings, as I still find how we began so remarkable that I have often run out of words to describe it adequately (for as much as I talk, that’s saying something!)

I love you very much, Kelly, and I am still so excited to share this journey with you.
